AIRDRIEONIANS

Partick Thistle vs. Hamilton

The Jags return to the Wyre Stadium at Firhill this weekend for a crucial home fixture against Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Championship. With the race for the play-offs entering its decisive phase, Brian Graham and Mark Wilson’s men will be determined to make home advantage count once again.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash, we take a look back at some memorable Firhill victories over the Accies.

November 2024 – Partick Thistle 5–1 Hamilton Academical
A blistering display from Thistle saw them leap into the promotion places with a dominant win at Firhill. Scott Robinson netted twice inside 20 minutes before Hamilton pulled one back on the stroke of half-time. But the Jags stormed out after the break—Brian Graham nodded home before turning provider for Logan Chalmers, then grabbed his second to cap off a ruthless second-half showing. Aiden Fitzpatrick claimed two assists as Thistle ran riot in front of 3,845 fans.

January 2015 – Partick Thistle 5–0 Hamilton Academical
Kris Doolan was the star of the show at Firhill, scoring four in a stunning individual display. His third—a cheeky backheel—was the pick of the bunch, while substitute Nathan Eccleston added a fifth in the dying minutes. Stephen O'Donnell and Ryan Stevenson were constant threats as Thistle overwhelmed a Hamilton side reeling from the departure of Alex Neil, delivering their biggest win of the season in style.

April 2018 – Partick Thistle 2–1 Hamilton Academical
On an emotional afternoon at Firhill, the Jags fought back to claim three vital points in tribute to club legend John Lambie. With the North Stand renamed in his honour, Kris Doolan headed in the equaliser after David Templeton’s opener, before Ryan Edwards fired home the winner through a crowded box. The comeback ended a long winless run and reignited hopes of Premiership survival.

Join the Red and Yellow Army at Firhill this Saturday as we take on the Accies in another crucial chapter of the season!

GAME RECAP

Airdrieonians vs. Partick Thistle

Stanway Header Not Enough as Jags Fall Late in North Lanarkshire

Partick Thistle’s six-game unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday afternoon, as a late strike from Chris Mochrie saw the Jags fall to a 2-1 defeat against Airdrieonians at the Albert Bartlett Stadium.

Brian Graham and Mark Wilson made just one change from the side that won at Cappielow, with Kyle Turner returning to the starting XI in place of Alex Jakubiak.

It was a high-tempo start from both teams, with Brian Graham nodding narrowly over in the early stages before chances fell to Robbie Crawford and Turner. At the other end, Mochrie and Liam McStravick threatened as the Diamonds looked to build on their midweek demolition of Queen’s Park.

Thistle’s best chance of the first half came on 19 minutes when Graham was played clean through by Josh Reid. After rounding the keeper, the skipper was bundled to the ground by Aidan Wilson – but penalty appeals were waved away to the disbelief of the Red and Yellow faithful.

Logan Chalmers came close with a driven effort just before the break, and Lewis Budinauckas made a sharp stop to deny a long-range strike as the sides went in level.

Airdrie struck shortly after the restart, with Mochrie finding the net from close range following a scrappy spell in the box.

Thistle responded positively. Chalmers again burst through on goal but was denied by Cade Melrose, before strong shouts for a penalty were waved away when the ball appeared to strike a hand in the box.

Ben Stanway brought the Jags level on 81 minutes, rising highest to head home a Logan Chalmers cross after a Fitzpatrick corner had been partially cleared. It marked a welcome return to action for the young midfielder after injury.

But the home side had the final say, hitting Thistle on the break deep into stoppage time. Mochrie struck again, driving low past Budinauckas to steal the points in dramatic fashion.

Full Time – Airdrieonians 2 Partick Thistle 1

The defeat sees Thistle’s lead over fifth-placed Raith Rovers cut to three points with four games left to play. Next up – a vital home clash against Hamilton Academical at Firhill.

The Championship Race

Match Recaps

Saturday, 5th April 2025

Falkirk 5–0 Greenock Morton
Falkirk edged ever closer to the Championship title with a ruthless display against Morton in front of over 6,000 fans at The Falkirk Stadium. Scott Arfield struck twice in the first half, with Calvin Miller also getting on the scoresheet. Ethan Ross and Barney Stewart added further gloss after the break. Morton’s play-off hopes take a major dent, while Falkirk could secure back-to-back promotions as early as next weekend.

Livingston 3–0 Queen’s Park
Livingston bounced back from their midweek defeat with a comfortable win over Queen’s Park. Goals from Lewis Smith, Robbie Muirhead, and Stephen Kelly all came before the break as David Martindale’s side moved three points clear in second. Queen’s Park’s defensive woes continue — they’ve now conceded 28 in their last eight and sit just six points off the bottom.

Dunfermline Athletic 0–1 Hamilton Academical
Reghan Tumilty’s strike just before half-time proved decisive as Accies pulled themselves out of the relegation play-off spot with a crucial away win. Dunfermline drop to ninth after the defeat and sit only three points above Airdrieonians, with momentum now firmly against them. A strong home support of over 7,000 watched on at East End Park.

Raith Rovers 1–0 Ayr United
Dylan Easton’s composed finish just after the hour mark kept Raith in the play-off hunt and ended Ayr’s brief stay in second place. The Kirkcaldy side are now just three points off Thistle and extend their unbeaten run to six. Ayr, meanwhile, slip to third after a frustrating afternoon at Stark’s Park.
