CELTIC
Partick Thistle vs Celtic

Our forthcoming Premier Sports Cup quarter-final with Celtic in September presents us with an exciting home fixture against Premiership opposition.
But it also requires us, as a fan-owned club, to work together to decide on how to maximise the potential opportunities it provides us, both in sporting and financial terms.
Previous games against Celtic have seen us house their supporters in the Jackie Husband Stand, and on occasion, also the John Lambie Stand. These decisions were historically taken to maximise ticket sales and to reduce stewarding and policing challenges.
Over the next week we will be canvassing branches of the Partick Thistle family for their views to help decide how we get the balance right for this fixture.

ROSS COUNTY
Next Up: Ross County vs Partick Thistle
Saturday 23 August | Global Energy Stadium, Dingwall | 3:00 PM
The Jags return to league duty this weekend with a long journey north to face Ross County in the William Hill Championship.
It’s a quick return to the Global Energy Stadium for Mark Wilson’s side, who were 3–1 winners in Dingwall less than a month ago during the Premier Sports Cup group stage. Goals from Robbie Crawford, Logan Chalmers and Ben Stanway sealed that victory, as Thistle turned in a commanding display in the Highlands.
That result continued a strong start to Premier Sports Cup, but this time around league points are on the line as both sides look to establish early momentum in the Championship table.
Ross County, newly relegated from the Premiership, will be keen to make their home ground a fortress, while the Red and Yellow Army will travel north in numbers hoping to see a repeat of July’s success.
Encounters between the Jags and the Staggies are rarely short on incident, and with both sides eager to lay down a marker in the promotion race, Saturday’s clash has all the makings of a fiercely competitive fixture.
Premier Sports Cup – Group B | Saturday 26 July 2025 | Global Energy Stadium, Dingwall
A Robbie Crawford strike just before half-time following a precise Luke McBeth pass, gave Thistle the lead, before Logan Chalmers doubled the advantage early in the second half with a fantastic solo effort. Substitute Ben Stanway put the result beyond doubt with a well-taken finish after a fine move six minutes from time, although Ross County grabbed a late consolation through Jordan White.
The result ensured Thistle topped Group B and qualified for the knockout stages in style.
The stage is set for another big afternoon in the Highlands. Let’s get right behind the lads as they look to bring three points back down the A9!

"The staff went over and beyond for each child and always remained professional at all times. They gave parents the time and told them what they had planned for the day or what they had got up to on the day. I couldn't thank the team enough for everything that they did, it was magnificent work from them all really engaging with the children in many ways. The kids all had their own little way of knowing the coach. Amazing thank you to all the staff”.

ANDY MUDOCH PIN
Sales of the Andy Murdoch Pin helping burst half a million-pound mark

The Jags Foundation would like to thank everyone who has purchased the Andy Murdoch pin which was put on sale at TJF’s recent, and very successful BBQ, and remains on sale on-line now.
Goalkeeper Andy made 120 appearances for Thistle across loan and permanent spells in the late 80s and early 90s and featured in many notable occasions such as winning at Celtic Park, lifting The Tennent’s Sixes and keeping his goal intact during the ‘ghost goal’ incident with Dundee United’s Paddy Connolly.
The Andy Murdoch pin is the 24th Thistle Pin that depicts a familiar face from around Firhill and is the latest in a series of unique Thistle collectibles made available by TJF.
The sale of Andy’s pin, which costs £10 including UK postage and packaging, as well as its predecessors have helped TJF close in on our next fundraising milestone which is a contribution of half a million pounds to Partick Thistle.
The pins are all limited editions and can be purchased HERE.
TJF would also like to inform their members, who have elected to pick up their Andy Murdoch pins from The Wyre Stadium at Firhill that they will be running a collection stall in the foyer of the Colin Weir Stand from 2pm until around ten minutes before kick-off at the Raith Rovers game on Saturday August 30th.

SAMMY JOHNSTON
Sammy Johnston
Partick Thistle regretted to inform last week that their former midfielder Sammy Johnston passed away last Thursday, August 14 at the age of 58 after a period of illness.
After starting his playing career at St Johnstone, Sammy was recruited for The Jags by John Lambie in March 1991 from his second club Ayr United in a swap deal that saw goalkeeper Cammy Duncan move in the opposite direction.
A debut for Thistle came against Morton at Cappielow in a 1-1 draw on March 23, 1991 with Sammy finding the net for the first time as a Maryhill Man when he opened the scoring against Clydebank in May, 1991 although it was a bitter-sweet strike as the Bankies went on to win 7-1.
Injury restricted Sammy’s appearances the following season however he returned to the team for the successful promotion match that secured Premier League football against Forfar.
Brother to Scotland internationalist Allan, and uncle to Scotland internationalist Max, Sammy would play two years in the top-flight before moving across the Irish Sea to join Ballymena United before returning to Scotland for a stint with Stranraer.
In 1994 Sammy headed west to Glenavon for a three-year period before moving onto Coleraine and Finn Harps ahead of a return to Firhill in 1998 as player/ assistant manager to Tommy Bryce.
In total Sammy would play 72 times for Partick Thistle and score four goals and after leaving for a second time he would go to play in the Juniors with Pollok as well as having coaching positions with both Neilston and Arthurlie.
Club Director Allan McGraw said: “I remember Sammy being part of the team that won us promotion in 1992 and going on to do well in The Premier League. We were informed a couple of weeks ago that he was ill but it is was still a shock to hear that he had passed.”
“I would like to offer condolences to his family on behalf of everyone at Partick Thistle.”

WOLFTUNA CLUB

Partick Thistle would like to express their thanks to West End-based wellness centre Wolftuna Club for their role in helping ensure the club’s players are in tip-top condition.
As part of the club’s player recovery programme, Partick Thistle have been booking post-match recovery sessions at Wolftuna Club’s Wellness Centre at 719a South Street, where The Jags enjoy a top of the range infrared sauna with red light therapy, combined with ice baths and outdoor experiences, aiding both their physical and mental recovery.
