QUEEN OF THE SOUTH
Next Up: Partick Thistle vs Queen of the South
Tuesday 22 July | Firhill Stadium | 7:45 pm
With two wins from two and a goal difference of +5, the Jags sit top of Group B after the first round of 2 games. A midweek test against Queen of the South now looms large, with both sides still unbeaten and qualification for the next round firmly in sight.
The Doonhamers head to Firhill on the back of a solid 4-0 win in their opening fixture and will be looking to unsettle the early pacesetters. But with the Red and Yellow Army behind them, Mark Wilson’s side will fancy their chances of maintaining momentum on home turf.
Scottish Championship | Tuesday 8 March 2022 | Firhill Stadium
A late Kevin Holt penalty proved decisive as the Jags earned a crucial three points under the Firhill floodlights. With the match finely poised deep into the second half, Cammy Smith was brought down inside the box and up stepped Holt to calmly slot home from 12 yards in the 82nd minute.
It was no less than Thistle deserved after a dominant second-half display. Alex Jakubiak came close with a driven effort, while Brian Graham twice tested the Queen of the South keeper Josh Rae. Substitute Graham nearly added a second in the closing stages, only to be denied once again by Josh Rae.
Ian McCall’s men moved to within five points of the top two with a game in hand — and kept the pressure on at the business end of the table with a disciplined, determined home win.
Scottish Championship | Saturday 31 July 2021 | Firhill Stadium
The Jags got their Championship campaign off to a flying start with a dramatic 3–2 win over Queen of the South at a sun-soaked Firhill.
It was the visitors who struck first through Willie Gibson, but Thistle responded superbly. Brian Graham bagged a quick-fire double — the first a close-range finish, the second a powerful header — to flip the contest on its head before half-time.
The match continued at pace after the restart, and Queens hit back again through Ruari Paton’s header from a corner. But with just over ten minutes to play, substitute Scott Tiffoney popped up with the winner — driving a low strike into the bottom corner to secure all three points in front of a delighted home support.
A perfect start and a sign of things to come in a season full of attacking flair and late drama.
Join the Red and Yellow Army at Firhill this Tuesday as the Jags look to take another big step toward the knockout stages.
