FORFAR
NEXT UP: SCOTTISH GAS SCOTTISH CUP DUTY AT STATION PARK
Forfar Athletic vs Partick Thistle
Saturday 29th November | 7:00 AM
The Jags hit the road this weekend as Scottish Gas Scottish Cup action returns, with a trip to Station Park to take on Forfar Athletic in the 3rd Round. With confidence high and momentum firmly in Thistle’s favour, Mark Wilson’s side travel north looking to keep their excellent run going and book their place in the next round.
It’s been a hectic fortnight for the boys in red and yellow, but an important one — capped off by two massive league wins over St Johnstone and Dunfermline that have pulled us level at the top of the Championship table.
LOOKING BACK: A HUGE WEEK AT FIRHILL
Saturday 22nd November – William Hill Championship
The top-of-the-table clash lived up to its billing, and Firhill was bouncing as the Jags delivered when it mattered most. Early goals from Dan O’Reilly and Tony Watt gave Thistle a deserved lead, and although Saints pulled one back through McPake, Mark Wilson’s side showed real grit to see it out.
It was a statement win — one built on organisation, bravery, and moments of real attacking quality. A proper Firhill afternoon.
Tuesday 25th November – William Hill Championship
Just three days later, the boys backed it up with another big victory — this time a tight, hard-fought 1–0 over an in-form Dunfermline side. The conditions were freezing, the pitch was slippy, and the margins were thin… but Thistle found a way.
Aidan Fitzpatrick provided the decisive moment midway through the first half, racing beyond the Pars defence after a clever Ben Stanway pass and finishing low past Terrell.
From there, the Jags showed superb discipline and control. Tony Watt struck the woodwork, O’Reilly made a brilliant block in the second half, and Josh Clarke remained solid whenever called upon. Dunfermline threw plenty at us late on, but the back line held firm to secure another crucial three points — and move Thistle level with St Johnstone at the summit.
A huge effort. A huge win. And another night that showed the strength, togetherness, and maturity growing within this squad.
Forfar may now find themselves in League Two, but Station Park has never been a gentle away day — and cup football has a funny way of producing nervy afternoons if you’re not sharp from the off.
Thistle have good memories here, though. The last meeting at Station Park saw the Jags run out 2–0 winners back in December 2020, with Shea Gordon and Ross Docherty on the scoresheet in a confident performance.
This trip comes at a very different moment: Thistle are flying, squad depth is improving by the week, and belief is flowing through the side. With players like Fitzpatrick, Watt, Chalmers and Lawless all finding form, and reinforcements returning from injury, the Jags will head north expecting to take the game by the scruff of the neck.
Cup weeks always bring a special kind of excitement — and after such a strong run of results, the Red and Yellow Army will be hopeful of another professional performance to keep the Scottish Cup journey rolling into December.
