LIVINGSTON

Livingston vs. Partick Thistle

Second Leg – Premiership Play-Off Semi-Final
Friday 16th May – Set Fare Arena

We’ve seen this script before. A deficit after the first leg, questions being asked — and a Jags side with a point to prove.

Livingston may have left Firhill with a 2–0 advantage, but this tie is far from settled. Friday’s trip to West Lothian is no lost cause as Partick Thistle know exactly what it takes to turn it round when the pressure’s at its peak.

We’ve done it already in this very campaign — trailing Ayr after the first leg, only to storm Somerset Park and claim a brilliant 2–0 win. That same grit, belief and unity will be needed once more as we head into the Lion’s den at the Set Fare Arena.

The Jags will be backed by another fantastic travelling support and fuelled by a reminder from earlier this month — when we left Livingston with a 1–0 win in the final league fixture before the play-offs.

We’ve done it on that pitch before. We can do it again.

Let’s take a look back at some of our most memorable results away to the Lions.

Historic Jags Wins in West Lothian

May 2025 – Livingston 0–1 Partick Thistle
A high-stakes night with everything on the line — and the Jags rose to it. With Livingston chasing the title and Thistle fighting for fourth, a slick move down the right saw Megwa’s cross deflected in off Macaulay Tait. From there, there were times when it was backs to the wall. Injuries piled up, but the defence stood tall and David Mitchell’s late stop from Stevie May sealed a priceless win — and a play-off place.

February 2009 – Livingston 2–4 Partick Thistle
Thistle burst out the traps, racing to a 3–0 lead thanks to a Harkins penalty, a deflected Paton effort and a Rowson strike. Livi hit back through Leigh Griffiths — twice — but it wasn’t enough. Harkins had the last word, curling a sublime free-kick into the top corner to end any hopes of a home comeback.

November 2007 – Livingston 0–4 Partick Thistle
Total control under the Almondvale lights. Scott Chaplain opened the scoring from close range, before Liam Buchanan netted twice — first via a fortunate deflection, then on the rebound after a fine Liberda save. Buchanan then turned provider, heading across goal for Mark Roberts to tap in a fourth. A dominant away display — ruthless in attack and rock solid at the back.

We’ve done it before in West Lothian. We know what it takes. Now it’s time to do it again.

GAME RECAP

Partick Thistle vs. Livingston

Scottish Premiership Play-Off Semi-Final – First Leg

Thistle’s semi-final got off to a frustrating start under the Wyre Stadium at Firhill lights as Livingston claimed a 2–0 first leg win — a scoreline that leaves the Jags with work to do heading into Friday’s return leg in West Lothian.

Riding high from Friday night’s stunning win at Somerset Park, the Jags made a lively start — Logan Chalmers looking sharp down the right on his return from injury, while Brian Graham and Robbie Crawford both came close with well-worked first-half chances.

But despite early pressure and bright spells, it was the visitors who struck first. Against the run of play, Robbie Fraser’s cutback was slammed home by Scott Pittman to give Livi a 1–0 lead before the break. Moments later, Lee Ashcroft was called into emergency action to clear off the line after Stephen Kelly’s long-range strike almost made it two.

Half Time – Partick Thistle 0 Livingston 1

Thistle made changes in the second half to wrestle back control, but Livingston capitalised again — this time through Daniel Wilson, whose strike from a wide free-kick rattled in off the underside of the bar to double the advantage.

David Mitchell was again called into action as the visitors pressed for a third, while Ashcroft came inches from a spectacular response at the other end — his long-range effort cracking off the bar with eight minutes to go.

The Jags kept pushing until the end. In stoppage time, Logan Chalmers picked out Brian Graham with a teasing low cross, but the captain couldn’t connect cleanly at the back post.

It was a night of fine margins and missed moments — but the tie isn’t over yet.

Full Time – Partick Thistle 0 Livingston 2

There’s all to play for on Friday night at the Set Fare Arena. Thistle need a two-goal win to take it to extra-time — and a backing from the Red and Yellow Army to match.

Let’s bring the noise. Let’s turn it around.

AYR UNITED

Ayr United vs. Partick Thistle

Before the semi-final challenge began, there was Somerset Park.

Just a week ago, the Jags produced a performance full of belief, bravery, and big moments to overturn a first-leg deficit and defeat Ayr United 2–0 — sealing a 2–1 aggregate win and booking our place in the play-off semi-finals.

Missing key players and facing down a noisy Somerset Park crowd, it was a patched-up Thistle side that rose to the occasion. Jamie Low, fresh from sitting his Higher History exam, marked his full debut with a dream assist — whipping in a perfect corner for Brian Graham to head home inside seven minutes and level the tie.

Ayr tried to rally but Thistle were fearless. Robbie Crawford, Ben Stanway and Brian Graham all tested the hosts, while the backline held strong — even with further injuries before the break, as Kyle Turner was forced off.

Half Time – Ayr United 0 Partick Thistle 1 (Agg: 1–1)

The second half saw wave after wave of Ayr pressure, but Thistle refused to buckle. The hosts resorted to long-range efforts and hopeful crosses, but the defence stood up to it all.

And then, with just minutes remaining, the defining moment.

A floated free-kick from Luke McBeth was flicked on by Graham, fed into Alex Jakubiak, and then returned perfectly to the captain — who rifled the ball into the net for his 100th goal in red and yellow.

It was a landmark strike in every sense: a personal milestone, and the goal that sent Thistle through.

Full Time – Ayr United 0 Partick Thistle 2 (Agg: 1–2)

It was a night that showed everything this squad is about — togetherness, resilience, and a will to win.

And while the first leg against Livingston hasn’t gone our way, the fight shown at Somerset proves one thing beyond doubt:

This team knows how to come back.

POST-MATCH REACTION | Ayr United vs. Partick Thistle

It was a night to remember in Ayrshire — and you can relive it through the voices of two key men.

Brian Graham, fresh off his historic 100th goal for the club, and Aidan Fitzpatrick, instrumental throughout the tie, reflect on the massive 2–0 win over Ayr United that fired Thistle into the play-off semi-finals.

Hear their thoughts on turning the tie, battling through injuries, and what it meant to deliver on a big night under pressure.

Both interviews are now available to watch on JagZone.
