SIGNING

Alex Jakubiak Returns On A Deal Until the End of the Season

Partick Thistle FC is pleased to announce the signing of striker Alex Jakubiak on a contract until the end of the season, subject to Scottish FA clearance.

The Englishman returns to Maryhill having previously spent time on loan with the Jags in 2022, playing 14 times and scoring once.

A graduate of Watford’s youth system, Jakubiak spent much of his early career out on loan in English and Scottish football with his first taste of the SPFL coming with Falkirk in 2018 where he scored seven times in 18 games on loan.

He departed Watford for Dundee in 2020 and would spend three seasons in the City of Discovery with the most notable being the title-winning campaign of 2022/23 when he scored 10 times in 30 games.

Last season Jakubiak was with Dunfermline where he scored twice in 28 appearances before departing in the summer.

MANAGEMENT

Interim Management Team Notice

Partick Thistle confirmed earlier this week that club captain Brian Graham and under-18 coach Mark Wilson will continue to lead the men’s first team on an interim basis.

Brian and Mark initially took over responsibilities for Saturday’s match against Airdrieonians.

With Chairman Richard Beastall stating, “We are extremely grateful to Brian and Mark for stepping in on such short notice and getting the team ready. They will keep leading the squad while we search for a new Sporting Director and manager.”

We’re committed to running a thorough recruitment process for these vital roles while giving Brian and Mark our full support, thus ensuring that we finish the season strongly while also setting up the club for long-term success.”

Further updates will be provided once the recruitment process is complete.

DEBUT

A Big Week for Matthew Falconer

It’s been a memorable week for Academy prospect Matthew Falconer, as the youngster reached two major milestones in life.

On Saturday, Falconer made his first-team debut, coming on in the 74th minute to replace Robbie Crawford. The homegrown talent slotted in seamlessly, showing great composure and energy in his senior bow.

His weekend didn’t stop there—on Sunday, he celebrated a special occasion, turning 18, to further mark a weekend he won’t forget anytime soon.

A huge congratulations to Matthew on his achievements—here’s to many more appearances in red and yellow!

Mark Wilson said:
"Mark has played well all season at his age group and has deserved to be involved with the first team. The next stage in his development was to play in games at a senior level, and he has done that now and did not look out of place."

GAME RECAP

Partick Thistle vs. Airdrieonians

Jags Held in Frustrating Firhill Draw

Partick Thistle were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Airdrieonians in their first match under interim management duo Brian Graham and Mark Wilson.

With the Jags looking to respond after a challening week, they started brightly and took the lead inside 15 minutes. Kanayo Megwa’s driving run down the left saw him pick out Graham in the box, and the captain made no mistake, slotting home to give Thistle an early advantage.

Thistle came close to doubling their lead before the break. Ben Stanway’s low effort from the edge of the box struck the post, with Robbie Crawford reacting quickest on the rebound, only to be denied by a fine save from Keiran Wright.

Airdrieonians grew into the game after the restart, and they found an equaliser 10 minutes into the second half. Adam Frizzell led a quick counterattack, slipping in Ben Wilson, who calmly slotted past debutant Lewis Budinauckas to level the match.

The Jags pushed for a late winner, with a penalty claim waved away after Wright collided with Turner in the box following a defensive lapse with Stanway heading just past shortly afterwords.

The result sees Thistle remain in fourth place, while Airdrieonians stay at the foot of the table.

Brian Graham stated -

"We started well, got ourselves in front, and could have had a second before halftime. They hit us on the break, and after that, we struggled to break them down. We’ll keep working and be ready to go again next week."

Full Time – Airdrieonians 1, Partick Thistle 1

Match Recaps

Friday, February 21

Greenock Morton 0–2 Falkirk (FT)
Falkirk strengthened their grip at the top of the table with a professional away performance at Cappielow. Scott Arfield opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Ethan Ross doubled the lead shortly after, ensuring the Bairns left Greenock with all three points.

Saturday, February 22

Dunfermline Athletic 0–0 Queen’s Park (FT)
A cagey encounter at East End Park saw both sides cancel each other out, with neither able to find the breakthrough. The Pars remain in the bottom half, while Queen’s Park continue their push for a play-off place.

Raith Rovers 2–0 Hamilton Academical (FT)
Raith Rovers picked up another vital win at Stark’s Park, under recently appointed manager Barry Robson. Dylan Easton converted from the penalty spot just after the half-hour mark before Finlay Pollock sealed the victory in the second half.

Ayr United 1–2 Livingston (FT)
Ayr suffered late heartbreak at Somerset Park as Robbie Muirhead’s injury-time winner stole the points for Livingston. Danny Wilson had given Livi the lead, but Marco Rus levelled with 17 minutes to play. Just as Ayr looked to have secured a point, Muirhead struck deep into stoppage time from a 30 yard free kick to secure the win for the visitors.

Tuesday, February 25

Livingston 3–2 Greenock Morton (FT)
Livingston moved to within a point of Scottish Championship leaders Falkirk after a crucial home win. Arron Lyall gave Morton an early lead, but Livingston responded emphatically with three goals in nine minutes from Tete Yengi, Danny Wilson, and Andrew Shinnie. Niall McGinn’s stoppage-time goal was only a consolation as Morton remain six points off the promotion play-off spots.

Airdrieonians 1–0 Raith Rovers (FT)
Airdrieonians secured a vital victory as substitute Lewis McGrattan’s late strike earned them three points. The midfielder’s long-range effort found the bottom corner with 12 minutes to play, securing a third consecutive home win and extending Airdrie’s unbeaten league run to five matches. Raith’s third straight away defeat leaves them four points behind the fourth-placed Jags.

Hamilton Academical 1–0 Dunfermline Athletic (FT)
Hamilton Accies leapfrogged Dunfermline after Stuart McKinstry’s second-half winner. The midfielder found the net from outside the box after good work from Oli Shaw, securing only a second win in eight games. Dunfermline’s winless streak extends to five matches, leaving them in ninth place.

Kit of the Week

Kit of the Week: 2019 - 2020 Away Kit

We are closing off Partick Thistle’s support of the month long Football v. Homophobia campaign by looking back at a strip that sent out a message of inclusivity across the world.

The Kit:

Supplied by Joma, this striking away kit featured white shirts, black shorts, and socks, with the rainbow colors of the LGBTQ+ Pride Flag prominently displayed on the sleeves and seams. Designed to celebrate diversity and inclusivity in football, the kit was more than just a kit—it was a statement of acceptance.

The Legacy:

The strip proved incredibly popular, selling out three times following its release. To launch the kit, Partick Thistle Women’s Football Club players Sara Robson, Deborah McLeod, and Steph Mallon were joined by Jamie Sneddon, Tam O’Ware, and Joe Cardle at the Energy Check Stadium at Firhill.

While the club’s home shirt maintained the traditional red and yellow, the mainly white away shirt stood out with its bold rainbow accents, symbolising the club’s commitment to equality.

On unveiling the kit, then Chief Executive Gerry Britton reinforced the club’s dedication to inclusivity:

“We were very clear when putting together the design that we wanted to make a statement about inclusivity, and that’s what inspired the rainbow feature on the away shirt. Partick Thistle is one club open to all—we will not accept discrimination in any form, and I sincerely hope this shows that.”

Fans looking to support inclusivity in football can check out Partick Thistle’s LGBT+ supporters group, Proud Jags, for more ways to get involved.
