AYR UNITED

Next Up: Partick Thistle vs Ayr United

Saturday 16 August | The Wyre Stadium at Firhill | 3:00 PM

Cup football returns to Maryhill this weekend as Partick Thistle host Ayr United in the Second Round of the Premier Sports Cup.

After a strong start to the 2025/26 campaign in this competition’s Group stages, Mark Wilson’s side will be aiming to carry that momentum into knockout action, with a place in the last eight at stake.

Backed by the Red and Yellow Army, the Jags will be determined to make home advantage count at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill.

Ayr United face Thistle for the first time since that unforgettable May night in the Premiership quarter-final play-offs, where Thistle overturned a first-leg deficit to progress in dramatic style at Somerset Park. Brian Graham’s brace — the 99th and 100th goals of his Jags career — sealed a 2–0 win on the night and a 2–1 aggregate triumph.

Cup ties between Thistle and Ayr have often served up drama, and with both sides eyeing a deep run in the competition, Saturday promises another fiercely-contested encounter.

Scottish Premiership Play-offs Quarter-final, Second Leg | Friday 9 May 2025 | Somerset Park, Ayr

Trailing 1–0 from the first leg at Firhill, Thistle travelled to Ayrshire knowing only a win would do. The breakthrough came early, when 17-year-old debutant Jamie Low delivered a perfect corner for brian Graham to nod home after just six minutes.

With the tie still in the balance deep into the second half, Graham struck again in the 88th minute — a composed finish into the far corner — to send the 1,800-strong travelling support into raptures. The result booked the Jags’ place in the semi-finals against Livingston and marked another special night in the club’s recent history.

The stage is set for another cracking cup tie at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill this weekend. Let’s get behind the lads and roar the Jags into the next round!

TICKET OFFICE

The Alan Limond Ticket Office

Partick Thistle were extremely proud to officially open The Alan Limond Ticket Office on Saturday ahead of the William Hill Championship Match against Greenock Morton.

The Ticket Office had been a grey portacabin since it was placed behind The Jackie Husband Stand last December as a replacement for a previous structure however a plan was quickly hatched to turn it into a fitting tribute to a volunteer who has given over 50 years of service to the club.

Alan first joined The Jags in 1974 as a Turnstile Operator on match days before moving to the Ticket Office with Saturday’s game marking the start of his 51st league season at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill.

At one stage a proposal was mooted to call the Ticket Office, The Limond Family Ticket Office, as Alan’s wife Vivienne, their children: Dawn, Amber and Scott and their grand-children: Calum, Cameron, Olivia and Iona have all volunteered there however after family and club discussions it was agreed to name it in honour of Alan.

Alex Samuel Comes On Board!

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Alex to the squad here at Thistle – he’s someone who we think fits really well with what we’re trying to build.

“He’s had a superb footballing education having played at a good level in England and in the Premiership up here. His work ethic is through the roof so you know he’ll give whatever he’s got whenever he’s on the pitch.

“The last time he played in the Championship, with Inverness, he showed his scoring touch and we want to help bring the best out of him in front of goal with the attacking players we have at the club.”

Open Day success secures Volunteer of the Month Status for Norman Wilson

To achieve such a successful day Norman had to liaise across all the departments of the club, including the team of volunteers that he works alongside on a Match Day and organisations from inside and outside of the Partick Thistle family.

He even managed to get a visit from a Fire Engine from Maryhill Fire Station!

All this was done alongside the other roles Norman carries out at the club with General Manager Levi Gill saying: “Norman’s nomination as Volunteer of the Month was heavily backed and I can understand why very easily. The Open Day received unanimous praise and the way everyone worked together was a great showcase of the good feeling that Norman creates.”

“Knowing Norman as I do, I am sure he will say that there were better candidates but trust me there were not.”

The Jags Foundation Summer BBQ

Sunday’s Annual BBQ at Firehouse was a timely reminder of what The Jags Foundation stands for: Our Club. Our Future. Our Hands.

The event was a welcome celebration of everything we love about being Thistle fans, catching up with familiar faces, swapping stories, and sharing pride in our club.

The turnout was fantastic, the food and drink hit the spot, and the raffle prizes added a bit of extra buzz. Huge thanks to everyone who helped make it happen.

We were especially pleased to welcome Head Coach Mark Wilson, already a proud TJF member, and Assistant Manager Alex Rae, who became our latest member on the day. That kind of support from the football side of the club speaks volumes about the direction we’re heading.

Our guest of honour was Andy Murdoch, who helped us launch his official Thistle Pin badge. Andy was genuinely touched to be recognised by the Foundation, and we’re proud to have him involved.

Following the pre-sale at the BBQ, the Andy Murdoch Pins are now available for members to buy here:

This limited edition badge is just £10, including UK postage and packaging. Stocks are limited—so grab yours now to avoid disappointment.

While you’re there, why not pick up another pin from one of our previous releases and complete your collection?
