AIRDRIEONIANS
Airdrieonians vs. Partick Thistle
The Jags are back on the road this weekend for a vital Scottish Championship encounter against Airdrieonians at the Albert Bartlett Stadium. With the promotion race heating up, Brian Graham and Mark Wilson’s side will be eager to build on recent form and keep their top-four ambitions on track. As we get set for Saturday’s showdown, we take a look back at some memorable away victories over the Diamonds.
Thistle kicked off their 2017/18 League Cup campaign with a solid away win. Kris Doolan opened the scoring early before Blair Spittal doubled the advantage with a composed finish just before half-time. Airdrie did pull one back through Dean Cairns, but the Jags held firm to take all three points and continue their progress in the group stage.
A lively affair at the Penny Cars Stadium saw Thistle come from behind to claim a crucial three points in League One. Despite falling behind to an early Jack McKay strike, Scott Tiffoney levelled the match with a calm finish before adding a second after the break. Brian Graham and Connor Murray added goals in quick succession as the Jags took control. Airdrie pulled one back through Alistair Roy, but a late red card for Sean Crighton ended any hopes of a comeback.
A professional, composed display saw the Jags notch another big result on the road. Brian Graham bagged his 11th of the season – and 90th in Thistle colours – tapping in Logan Chalmers’ low cross to break the deadlock. Defender Dan O’Reilly doubled the lead with a close-range header from a half-cleared corner. Despite efforts from Adam Frizzell and Gavin Gallagher, Myles Roberts stood tall between the sticks as Thistle secured a vital three points to keep the pressure on the Championship's top three.

GAME RECAP
Greenock Morton vs. Partick Thistle
O’Reilly Header Secures Vital Win in Stormy Greenock
A courageous Dan O’Reilly header was enough to seal all three points for Partick Thistle at a windswept Cappielow, as the Jags edged out Greenock Morton in a hard-fought 1-0 win.
The result sees Thistle open up a seven-point gap over Morton in the race for the final play-off spot, on an afternoon where conditions were as much an opponent as the home side.
Brian Graham and Mark Wilson made two changes to the starting XI, with Kanayo Megwa and Alex Jakubiak coming in as the Jags went with two up top. Despite the torrential rain and blustery winds, the Red and Yellow Army turned out in force behind the goal.
Thistle started brightly, but Morton gained control as the half wore on. Despite enjoying more of the ball, the home side failed to seriously trouble Lewis Budinauckas before the break.
The hosts began the second half strongly, forcing Budinauckas into a couple of sharp saves, but it was Thistle who found the breakthrough on 73 minutes. After a spell of sustained pressure, Kyle Turner delivered a deep free-kick into the box, and O’Reilly showed great bravery to head past Ryan Mullen and spark jubilant scenes in the away end.
Morton pressed late on, but a solid defensive showing saw Thistle over the line to record a crucial victory.
Full Time – Greenock Morton 0 Partick Thistle 1
The Jags now sit six points ahead of Raith Rovers and seven clear of Morton, with attention turning to next weekend’s trip to face bottom side Airdrieonians at the Albert Bartlett Stadium.

Match Recaps

Hamilton Academical 0–3 Raith Rovers
Raith Rovers kept their play-off hopes alive with a commanding win over Hamilton Academical at New Douglas Park. The deadlock was broken two minutes before the interval when Dylan Easton drilled a low finish into the far corner after being teed up by Jack Doherty. The visitors doubled their advantage midway through the second half as Callum Fordyce rose highest to head home from a free-kick delivered by Jamie Gullan. Ten minutes later, the result was put beyond doubt when Josh Mullin pounced inside the six-yard box to convert from Lewis Vaughan’s cutback. The result sees Raith leapfrog Morton into fifth place, though they still trail Thistle by six points in the race for the final play-off spot. Accies, meanwhile, remain two points clear of Dunfermline in ninth but have now gone four games without a win.
Ayr United 3–0 Dunfermline Athletic
Ayr United climbed back into second place in the Championship table with a confident victory over struggling Dunfermline Athletic at Somerset Park. The Honest Men took the lead just before half-time when Connor McLennan finished well following a pinpoint cross from Jamie Henderson. Jamie Murphy made it two midway through the second half with a delightful chipped finish after breaking clear of the Pars defence. Any hopes of a Dunfermline comeback were dashed late on as Victor Wanyama, making his return to Scottish football, was shown a straight red card for a handball and foul in quick succession. In stoppage time, Ethan Walker rounded off the scoring with a composed finish after linking up with Dylan Watret. The result moves Ayr above Livingston on goal difference, while new Dunfermline boss Neil Lennon faces a tough task to lift his side out of the relegation play-off spot, with just six games remaining and Wanyama now suspended for midweek.

Dunfermline Athletic 1–0 Livingston
Dunfermline Athletic secured a crucial three points in their battle to avoid the drop with a hard-fought win over title-chasing Livingston at East End Park. The only goal of the game arrived on the stroke of half-time, as Ewan Otoo capitalised on a poor clearance from a corner to fire home from close range. Buoyed by a strong home crowd in Neil Lennon’s first match in charge at the venue, the Pars started brightly and created the better chances in the opening period, with Chris Kane twice going close. Livingston improved after the interval, with substitutes Scott Pittman and Michael Nottingham injecting fresh energy, and Teti Yengi came within inches of equalising with a powerful header that was brilliantly saved by Tobi Oluwayemi. The result sees Dunfermline leapfrog Hamilton into eighth place, while Livingston’s title push takes a major blow — they now sit eight points behind leaders Falkirk with five games remaining.
Queen’s Park 0–5 Airdrieonians
Queen’s Park’s alarming run of form continued with a heavy defeat at the hands of bottom side Airdrieonians at Hampden Park. The visitors struck early, with Mason Hancock heading home the opener inside 12 minutes before Ricco Diack doubled the lead with a superbly struck free-kick. Hancock added his second of the night just before the break, calmly rounding Calum Ferrie to make it 3–0 at half-time. The second half offered little respite for the hosts, as Diack netted his second after Ferrie failed to hold Chris Mochrie’s strike, before Mochrie added a fifth with a composed curling finish from the edge of the box. Airdrie’s emphatic win keeps their hopes of survival alive as they move within five points of Hamilton in ninth. Queen’s Park, meanwhile, remain in seventh, but their goal difference continues to plummet, with 25 conceded in just seven matches.
