CELTIC
Next Up: Partick Thistle vs Celtic
Sunday 21 September | Wyre Stadium at Firhill | 3:30 PM
Cup football returns to Maryhill this weekend as Partick Thistle face Premiership giants Celtic in a blockbuster Premier Sports Cup quarter-final tie.
The Jags booked their place in the last eight with a series of strong performances in the Group Stages and an impressive 2-0 knock-out success over Ayr United. Now the focus turns to a massive clash where Mark Wilson’s men will be looking to rise to the occasion against the Cup holders, with the Red and Yellow Army once again set to play their part in creating a special cup atmosphere.
It’s a huge test against Brendan Rodgers’ side, who will arrive as favourites, but Thistle head into the tie with nothing to fear and everything to play for. Knockout football has a habit of producing drama, and Firhill will be ready to roar as the Jags look to write another famous chapter in the club’s cup history.
As Thistle prepare to take on Celtic once again in the League Cup, it’s impossible not to remember one of the greatest days in the club’s history.
On 23 October 1971, the Jags stunned Scottish football with a 4–1 victory over Celtic in the League Cup Final at Hampden Park. Despite being huge underdogs and written off by many goals from Alex Rae, Bobby Lawrie, Denis McQuade, and Jimmy Bone saw Davie McParland’s side sweep into a remarkable four-goal lead before half-time.
The Red and Yellow Army were in dreamland and though Celtic pulled one back, nothing could spoil the party — with that day forever etched in history as the club’s most famous triumph and the moment the “1971 squad” wrote themselves into Jags folklore.
This Sunday’s quarter-final won’t decide a trophy, but the spirit of ’71 is sure to be alive in the stands, as the Red and Yellow Army get behind their team in pursuit of another unforgettable cup moment.

DIRECTORS
Two new directors added to Club Board

The Board of Partick Thistle Football Club are pleased to announce the appointment of two new skills-based directors, bringing fresh expertise to the club’s leadership team.
“My fellow directors and I are delighted to bring Grant and Jacqui onto the Board.”
“They add significant experience in two key areas for our future. Together, we will strengthen our foundations, embrace fresh ideas, and drive the club forward on and off the pitch. With their energy and vision, we are ready to seize the opportunities ahead.”

EVENT
Meet the Board Event – Thursday, September 18
Join us to meet the Club Board at a special event at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill on Thursday 18 September.
Ahead of our Premier Sports Cup quarter-final tie with Celtic, supporters are invited to spend the evening in the Alan Rough Lounge to find out more about recent events at the club both on and off the pitch, and to pose questions to directors.
To attend the event, which has a 7.30pm start, get your free ticket via Fanbase now. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
Chairman Richard Beastall and Sporting Director Ian Baraclough will be in attendance, alongside Fan Representative Directors Allan McGraw and Alistair Gray, as well as other members of the Board.

POTM
Stanway Scoops Inaugural Seven Wealth Player of the Month Prize
“We finished August very strongly after a disappointing start to the month which I think says a lot about the character of the team we have here. We feel like we’ve got a bit of momentum now but we have to work hard to keep it going in September.
“On a personal note, I’m happy to be in the team at the moment and I’ve been enjoying the sitting role in midfield. It’s definitely a bit of a different perspective; you see more of the game and get more touches but also have to be disciplined in your positioning.
“As for the attacking side of things, that goal at County is something I want to be doing more of. The coaches are always encouraging me to trust my shot from outside the box and it obviously came off that day so hopefully there’s more of that to come this season.”
“I would like to thank Chris Cassidy from Seven Wealth for the Award. It is my mum’s birthday today so I will be passing it on to her to enjoy.”

AYR UNITED

The club can confirm that our postponed William Hill Championship fixture against Ayr United at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill, originally scheduled for 20th September, will now take place on Tuesday, 21st October with a 7:45pm kick-off.

150TH
150th Announcement
We continue to have regular meetings of the 150th Anniversary Working Group, and, while we’re still in the early stages for next year, some amazing progress has already been made.
In addition to the meetings, we held an open forum, inviting representatives of all of the main groups attached to Partick Thistle, to hear their thoughts and ideas. This included the Jags Trust, Jags for Good, the Memorabilia Group, Proud Jags, the Youth Academy, the Disabled Supporters Association, the Charitable Trust and the Ultras Thistle. This, we felt, was a great success and there were valuable ideas contributed from all.

"That scoreline wasn't a reflection of the game. It was 90 minutes of hard work and the first half was 45 minutes of real quality. We could easily have found ourselves 3-0 up at half-time"
